Denise, a graduate of Eastside High School, continued her education at Greenville Technical College from 2008-2013 where she received her Associate Degrees in Business Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management and Accounting. In November 2007, she began volunteering at Soteria CDC as an appointment setter for the Ministry of Resources Benevolence Ministry. In May 2011, she started an Internship for Soteria’s Green Start Recycling before coming onboard as staff in July 2011 as Soteria Program Manager.  As the need expanded, so did Denise’s role into Administrative Assistant and Property Manager. In seeing a need of managing the housing of Soteria CDC, she went back to Greenville Tech in August 2012 and received certification in Property Management. Shortly thereafter in January 2014, she became a Notary Public for The State of South Carolina. In her spare time she loves to be “YaYa” to her grandchildren.

Cian Rusnak

Volunteer Coordinator

After serving as a student intern at Soteria, Cian decided to continue his time here and accept an opportunity to be on the Soteria staff. Graduating from Penn State with a degree in criminology in May of 2022, he was in search of employment that fit his passion of prison reform, reentry and rehabilitation. Because of his experiences at Soteria, Cian decided to pursue his graduate degree online rather than in-person so he can continue serving the community as a part of the Soteria staff.

Cate Tedford joins Soteria as a 2023 graduate of Clemson University with degrees in Philosophy and Spanish. During an internship with Greenville-based nonprofit Mill Village Farms in the summer of 2022, Cate fell in love with the Greenville community and the important work being done to make it a place where everyone has the resources and opportunities to flourish. After over a year working in food access programming, Cate decided it was time for a change and sought out a grant writing position, which brought her to Soteria. She is grateful and excited to be a part of Soteria's mission of caring for people and advocating for justice for those affected by the criminal justice system.
